The Royal Tenenbaums: the Citizen Kane of crap.

Wes Anderson movies geeks are the worst I've ever come across.

Ok, breaks down like this-

Rushmore turns out to be a great movie, develops a following as both a film, script and style of direction/cinematography. Wes Anderson, puts out another movie, called "The Royal Tenenbaums", co-written by Owen Wilson, who also co-stars in the film.

Hoping to ride on stylistic directing, the plot itself is boring, aimless, and quite humorless. The only interesting character being Royal Tenenbaum, and in my opinion, his Indian [or pakistani?] sidekick, Pagoda.

Now let's get back to the wes anderson groupies. Picture, if you will, "emo kids go to the movies", old couples who can't shut up through the whole movie, and that uber-elite pop intelligencia crowd consisting mostly of college drop outs who considered themselves "too smart for the system", most everyone and everything else, and place themselves as such because they've read one book by Camus, Kafka & Sartre [and usually only the Plague, The Trial, and No Exit. Even I've read those, and I'm dumb.].

ok. trouble is brewing already.

With that in mind, I'll add this reminder; Rushmore was funny and smart with an excellent plot, and perfect characters to work within that plot. The Royal Tenenbaums is not funny, and consists only of over develop charaters and no correct placement of them. Like a Michelangelo portrait with no background what-so-ever, just floating there on a white canvas.

The Wes Anderson groupie movie geeks, laugh at every single line or silent pause in the whole movie. Why? Because Rushmore was funny, remember? If Rushmore was funny, and that was directed by Wes Anderson, So must be The Royal Tenenbaums. This is the same logic that put Paul Verhoeven [Robocop] in the directors chair of Joe "Flashdance" Eszterhaus' Showgirls. Never forget that folks.

So the movie, the Royal Tenenbaums, which is not funny, poorly written, and and far too character heavy without a supporting frame work for them to operate in, is treated as being equal to Rushmore. And to bring it to a close; all because Wes Anderson directed both of them.

If it was someone's intention with this movie to make me think, someone failed, because all I kept thinking was, "is someone trying to make me think?"

If you must see a movie in the theaters, go see The Lord of The Rings again.
